Welcome to the Richmond Youth Honour Choir!

The Richmond Youth Honour Choir represents some of the best young singers in our city! We sing a wide variety of musical styles, from Bach to Broadway and everything in between. In past seasons, the RYHC has performed for the Emperor of Japan, at the 2010 Winter Olympics, and at Unisong in Ottawa. We were privileged to premier our own commission, “Listen to the Music” which has become not only a favorite of ours, but sold thousands of copies since it’s premier, which included the VYSO Junior Strings. We enjoy participating in a variety of Choral Festivals and collaborating with other choirs and performance groups. We also enjoy hosting other choirs from across Canada and international places.  We recently toured to Japan, which included singing in Richmond’s Sister City, Wakayama! We have a very exciting year ahead of us this year in celebration of our 15th Anniversary Season! It is poetic that our 15th Anniversary year aligns with Canada’s 150th Anniversary year! So wwe are going to have a musical party going all year long!  The theme for our 2016–2017 Season is “Sing For Life”. We hope to make new friends at Culture Days this September! We look forward to our Development Camp at Camp Squeah in the fall with our amazing guest clinician Paula Kremer, Conductor of the acclaimed Vancouver Cantata Singers! This training camp is always a highlight of the choir members through the year! In December, we will have our annual  “Holiday Harmonies Concert” which is always a favorite for the community to attend and get in the holiday spirit! We will perform on our annual school tour, as well as perform as invited guests for Schmeckfest in April. Then at our most exciting Anniversary Concert in May, “SING FOR LIFE” we will perform the world premier of our newest commission commemorating both our 15th anniversary and Canada’s 150th by the acclaimed Canadian composer, Timothy Corlis! The Richmond and Delta Youth Orchestra will be just one of our exciting guests and will be part in this world premier.  Just when you think we have hit the heights we will go a little further!  Eligible choristers will then fly off to Ottawa at the end of June and perform as part of Canada’s 150th celebrations in our national capital! We will be sharing our new commission on Parliament Hill!  We are looking at our next INTERNATIONAL TOUR which would be in the near future including an exchange with a fantastic choir from Namibia, Africa!  That’s right, we are looking at traveling to AFRICA!  Please sign up for our Newsletter to stay up to date with all our great choral adventures.
